Athletic Achievements (1985-1995)
• 1985, Isle of Man: Jörgen Pettersson participated in the inaugural Island Games as a volleyball player, representing Åland.
• 1985-1995: Competed in the Island Games over a decade, participating in the Isle of Man, Guernsey, Faroe Islands, Åland and Gibraltar Island Games; secured three gold medals and one silver medal during his athletic career.
Leadership and Service to the IIGA (1997-2024) • 1997, Jersey: Elected to the Executive Committee of the IIGA, marking the beginning of his long-standing commitment to the governance and strategic direction of the Games.
• 2005, Shetland: Elected Vice Chair of the Executive Committee.
• 2007, Rhodes: Elected Chair of the Executive Committee, a role in which Jörgen served with distinction, guiding the IIGA through periods of growth and change, defined by the Title Sponsorship and Partnership with NatWest International.
• 2007-2024: As Chair, Jörgen was instrumental in shaping policies and fostering unity among the member islands, ensuring the continued success and relevance of the Games.
• 2024: Upon being appointed Speaker of the Åland Parliament, Jörgen retired from the Executive Committee, concluding 27 years of service to the IIGA.
