Time for the Launch of the NatWest Island Games XIV
Sat, 25 Jun 2011
Today is the day! After years of preparation the Chairman of the Organising Committee will finally launch the NatWest Island Games XIV. A spectacular parade will take place on the seafront in Ryde. School children from all over the island will march and present a wonderful carnival for our sports. Lord Sebastian Coe will officially open the Games and give our athletes a few inspirational words of encouragement gained from his distinguished career as one of the worlds greatest runners.
The weather forecast has promised sunshine in the afternoon even though there is some light rain this morning. Our competitors from our 24 Member Islands are all eager to begin their competitions. The first event is the mens half marathon at 9 o'clock followed by the women's half marathon at at 9.30 tomorrow morning.
