The longest day is nearly here!
Wed, 17 Jun 2009
The 27th June will be a day to remember for us all. Thousands and thousands of competitors, coaches, managers, supporters and spectators indeed everyone will gather in Mariehamn to celebrate the Opening Ceremony of the NatWest Island Games XIII in Åland.
We have all travelled far. Geographically we come from different parts of the world to compete against others and to become friends. The Association has also travelled far from its beginning in 1985.
The weekend before the Opening Ceremony is Midsummer in Åland. We celebrate the longest day and the shortest night. We sing and dance and enjoy yourselves.
But this summer is not just any summer. This Midsummer will serve as a warm- up for the Big Day – 27th June.
On behalf of the IIGA I wish you all the best of luck with your final preparations.
See you soon!
Jorgen Pettersson
IIGA Chairman
