Publication Date: Wed, 29 May 2013
Six swimmers travelled with their team manager and parents to attend the Buckie Swim Meet recently to improve their competitive performances, thanks to a grant from the NatWest Sports Development Travel Assistance Programme.
The Western Isles Island Games Association's (WIIGA's) aim, and a major part of their swimming development plan, is to increase the number of swimmers competing in the Scotish Swimming Association sanctioned events. The ultimate goal being to increase the number of talented swimmers eligible for selection for future NatWest Island Games.
Over the course of the swim meet all six swimmers achieved at least one personal best time. While one swimmer excelled gaining a total of 6 medals - 1 gold, 1 silver and 4 bronze.
WIIGA's representative stated that the whole experience has led to a dramatic improvement in personal best times as well as an increased interest in entering future competitions, this would not have been possible without the financial assistance received from the NatWest Sport Development Programme grant.
