Press Release
Geoff Karran – MBE
Publication Date: Tue, 06 Jan 2009
It is with great pride that I inform our membership that the Honorary Legal Adviser of the IIGA, former advocate Geoff Karran, has been awarded an MBE (Member of the British Empire) in the Queens New Year's honours list. Mr Karran is awarded his MBE as a result of his voluntary contribution to sport and disabled people in the Isle of Man. Mr Karran is presently executive chairman of the Isle of Man Sports Council and is chairman of the Organising Committee for the Commonwealth Youth Games in 2011, which the Isle of Man will host. He was also the driving force in the development of the Project 21 Centre, a sport and recreation facility for people with learning difficulties in the Isle of Man, which opened last year. Geoff Karran has been the Honorary Legal Adviser for the International Island Games Association since 1997. He was present at the first AGM of the IIGA in the Isle of Man in 1985 and was involved with the legal aspect of setting up the IIGA Limited Company. Thanks to his work for the IIGA, the association is today on solid juridical ground for which we owe him our deepest gratitude. On behalf of all our members, I congratulate Geoff Karran on receiving such a prestigious award. Jorgen Pettersson Chairman
